Oracle to rival Salesforce? Oracle are planning to hire an extra 5,000 employees for its cloud software business, with the aim is to compete with Salesforce in this fast-growing industry. According to Oracle, these hires will include “new engineers, consultants, sales and support people”
When Oracle reported its fourth-quarter results in June, it said sales from cloud offerings rose 58 percent from a year ago, to $1.4 billion. For its entire fiscal year, Oracle’s cloud business reported $4.6 billion in sales, an increase of 60 percent from the prior year.
The rivalry between Oracle and Salesforce has been back and forth for some time now and last week contributed a little bit more to the ongoing feud as Marc Beinoff (previous employee of Oracle) bragged he was on track to generate $10 billion in revenue this year, a goal that Oracle set out to do at the start of the year.
